Make Stats Easy

Statistics is horribly taught my tutoring focuses on making statistics easy to understand and enjoyable

Don’t settle for poor teaching

I had the same stats experience as you. Complex maths and equations completely out of context without any links to what it actually means. You end up just picking up patterns on what the teacher wants, but it’s still incredibly hard.

That’s where I can come in! I’ve seen statistics courses from almost every university in the country and unfortunately they are all not significantly different (stats joke).

I take a completely different approach and actually explain conceptually what everything means. I guarantee you will learn more in a single session than you have all semester. I cannot count the number of times I have heard “why has it never been explained like that?” from students.

My Tutoring Style

Enjoy learning

I enjoy teaching and this creates an environment where you can equally enjoy learning - even stats I promise! Despite being online, I still maintain the ability to make our sessions fun and engaging which I believe is the cornerstone to successful learning.

Simplifying important concepts

I love a saying, and you really do need to be able to walk before you can run. Everything in statistics builds on itself, so I make sure that we know the most important concepts really well rather than spreading ourselves too thin across all the topics.

Being patient and encouraging

I find statistics being so poorly taught makes students feel silly that they can’t understand anything (which is absolutely how it is taught!) and can be really demoralising and anxiety inducing. I go at your pace and encourage you to ask questions and attempt problems.

What I can help you with

University Statistics

Whether preparing for future study or just want to get through statistics, I have helped many students achieve their goals. And I promise even if you just want to get through this subject, that you will take away a conceptual understanding of data and statistics that will help you whatever path you go down in the future.

Research Projects

With my real world experience in the biomedical devices industry and academia, I have a lot of experience in designing experiments and statistical analyses. I have helped students refine their analyses and interpret the conclusions in Honours, Masters, and PhD research projects.

Statistical Programming

A skill which is becoming increasingly prevalent globally, and therefore one which universities are integrating more and more into their degrees, learning R, SPSS, Stata, MATLAB or Python for statistical analysis can be challenging. I help many students learn coding in all of the above languages.

FAQs

  • I have tutored for over a decade and absolutely love education. I can recognise specific learning needs and adapt my style accordingly.

I care about my students and go above and beyond to help them succeed.

  • Generally in trial sessions we discuss how lessons are structured, content we will cover, study plans to optimise your time outside of sessions, and also any questions you may have. Students find these incredibly helpful to decide if I’m the right fit for them!

  • Honestly, not much else other than yourself, but bringing resources specific to your school and examples of questions you have found difficult will help target our sessions better.

  • Interaction is the most important thing, so I always have a collaborative whiteboard which we can both work on. Maths is very graphical, so it is important we can draw and scribble out workings out, etc.

  • I have been tutoring for a long time and I think that the average online tutoring is actually better than in-person, not worse. The student feels more comfortable, it is more convenient, and is equally engaging.

Of course there are exceptions, but this is my experience having done both.
